Gépèg: Souffles de résistance
Gépèg: Souffles de résistance
Gépèg: Souffles de résistance was presented by the Ganonchia collective represented for the occasion by curators Guy Sioui Durand and France Trépanier at Artist run centre Axe Néo-7 in Gatineau, Quebec. It was held in 2009 as part of Camp Kabéshinàn, the 4th gathering of the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
During the day, two panels focused on the realities of independent French-speaking indigenous artists and curators. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the presentation of contemporary indigenous visual arts which remains parsimonious, despite the richness of the production of indigenous artists in French-speaking communities in Quebec.
The evening program began with a speech by Claudette Commanda, at the edge of the Ruisseau de la Brasserie, near the fire, under the shaputuan. Followed presentations and performances by artists Simon Bénédict, Domingo Cisneros, Joséphine Bacon, Sonia Robertson, Katia Rock, Eruoma Awashish, France Gros-Louis Morin, Louis-Karl Picard-Sioui and Michel “Tehariulen” Savard. The evening concluded with a feast.
